That has been my understanding as well. H.323 certainly should not matter,
MGCP might, but If it does I have not seen a compatibility document that
identifies this. Nor have I ever run into issues with either.
SRST however there is documented compatibility at:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/compat/ccmcompmatr.html#wp139350

Unless you are looking for a specific feature, it's not so much the IOS
version, it's the IOS Feature Set. For voice, you need either the Voice,
Advances Services, or Enterprise feature set to use a router and a Voice
Gateway.

As some people have mentioned, certain features like SRST (or a specific
version of SRST) would only be available in certain IOS releases. Right
now, for voice, the popular IOS seems to be 12.4(15)T. If you have no
other preference, just grab the latest release on that train and you
should be all set.

Agreed. h323/mgcp seem, for the most part, to be consistent across
versions.

My experience has shown that if you are doing any SCCP media on IOS, this is
going to be the application that requires you to upgrade IOS so that the
SCCP stack is compatible with your new CUCM version.

Re: CallManager Upgrade 4.2 to 7.x [ In reply to ]
This information used to be in the CUCM compatiblity matrix but has been
unfortunately removed:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/compat/ccmcompmatr.html#wp79913

I am working to get the doc teams to update this to more relevant
information.

Even h.323 has some version dependencies:
Differences between CCM and IOS H245 non-stad ASN formats causes CPU Hog
, Fixed CSCse36579

At this point the best assurance of compatibility comes with Unified
Communications Solution documents:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/uc_system/unified/communications/system/ucstart.htm

this leads to
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/uc_system/UC7.0.1/release_notes/rnipt701.html

which gives 2 recommendations for IOS based on use.

Regards,
Wes
