[nsp] 12.0(22)S experiences on 7200/7500?
Hi,

the feature list for 12.0(22)S looks pretty interesting, especially the
high availability stuff on the 7500.

On the other hand, new features usuall mean new and exiting bugs :-)

So... has anyone of you collected some experiences with 12.0(22)S on the
7200 and/or 7500 that he's willing to share? (We're doing only pretty
basic stuff - BGP, EIGRP, PIM-SM, MSDP, CEF, no dCEF yet, IP Accounting).

I have 2 7200VXR/NPE300s that hang when booting if they have a
PA-4E, PA-8E, or (on one of them) PA-4T+ in them. My 7200/NPE200s
with similar PAs do not hang. Problem was introduced in 12.0(21.4)S2.
Cisco is still investigating the bug. See bugid CSCdy01897.

Andrew,
I thought Cisco had announced that they wouldn't be
supporting these cards in the VXR [along with FDDI [wow
remember FDDI :-)] and token ring]]?

Regards,
Neil.

Naah.. the PA-4E and PA-4T cards weren't problems.

It was:

Older rev HSSI PAs
Older rev PA-8T-V.35
All FDDI + Token Ring

My understanding was the components used in
these older PAs were unable to operate at the higher clock rate
the PCI bus was to be operated at with the faster processors
reliably.

I think you're referring to
http://www.cisco.com/warp/customer/770/PA-IPPprogram.html

PA-4E is supported but a minimum hardware revison level is required.

Thanks for that warning. My PA-4Es are in NPE-225s, but I have PA-4T+ in
NPE-300 and NPE-400 machines, so I'll stay away from this for a while.

Here is the URL for the break down of supported and revision
requirements for PA's in VXR's:

http://www.cisco.com/warp/customer/770/fn3028.shtml

If the configuration was working under a earlier version of IOS, the
newer IOS shouldn't break thing because of the HW rev. (Unless Cisco
broke the HW rev. checking and is letting these cards enable during
boot!)

My PAs are at the supported rev level and were working with
c7200-k4p-mz.120-21.S1 and c7200-k4p-mz.120-21.4.S (& lots of
earlier versions). They run c7200-boot-mz.120-21.4.S2. They hang
with c7200-k4p-mz.120-21.4.S2 or c7200-k4p-mz.120-21.4.S3.
