Missing workspace / workspace not visible
Dear all,

My Bric installation was working fine. Now, I find that my workspace is inaccessible. I log in
successfully, but the My Workspace section on the left does not expand (see attached). None of the
normal sections or links are available. The admin section is present and works correctly.

Clicking on My Workspace only results in the below line in the Apache access log, and reloads the
page with the same result. Nothing is shown in the error log for the vhost.

145.221.52.106 - - [16/May/2011:16:15:00 +0000] "GET /workflow/profile/workspace/ HTTP/1.1" 200 5534

The DB ended up stoppped recently. After restarting it, I was able to log in to Bric OK, but this is
the first time since then that I have tried to create a story.

I've reproduced this on several computers and browsers.

Can anyone suggest anything, please?

Thanks

Are you getting a Bricolage error page? That error there doesn't tell us much. Ideally we need to see an actual error message, from your error log or from the Bricolage error page (IIRC, there's a "show full error" link).

Most likely you have a corrupt document checked out that will need to be fixed.

Best,

David

There is no more than what I have, unfortunately. The screenshot shows
everything I see. There's no error anywhere I can see, and nothing in the
apache error log.

Re: Missing workspace / workspace not visible [ In reply to ]
Hi Ian,

If the admin section works correctly, can you try creating a new user
and then signing in as that person?

Then, if the problem is a corrupt story, you may be able to narrow in on
that by browsing from desk to desk until you land on the one where the
bad asset is.

After that, bric_soap is frequently useful for manipulating assets that
are causing trouble in the UI. Let me know if you need some samples of
that.

Hope this helps,

Bret

A new user has the same result - admin but no worksapce. I don't know anything about bric_soap -
what should I do with it?

Thanks.

Hmmm, workspace has no submenus! Only workflows.

'admin' is a member of global admins, and 'user' is a member of Story Editors, Media Producers,
Template Developers and Publishing Admins. However, no workflows are shown. I have not edited any of
the built-in workflows or added any new ones.

Where is the association between the three standard workflows and the relevant groups. How does Bric
know that members of the Story Editors group should see the Story workflow?

Re: Missing workspace / workspace not visible [ In reply to ]
If Global Admin doesn't have it, it's probably not there. :)
If you select "Default site" then all three workflows on the left
should be expandable.

If not, perhaps reinstall is needed.

I've deleted default site (after adding a custom one). Is that bad?

Not necessarily. But workflows are assigned to specific site. So you
need a separate set of workflows for your new site.

You need to make sure that everyone who needs to create content for the site has READ access to it.

After deleting the default workflows and adding new ones, they have appeared in the left-hand bar
underneath workspace as expected, so thank you all for your help. However, in the process of
creating them, there is no opportunity to specify which site they are associated with. How/where do
I do this? I would expect it to be a drop-down in the New Template screen.

Since you have only one site, it went just through, otherwise there is a selection
list from which you choose a site. It's in the Workflow screen.

OK, thanks. Is there a feature request or bug in this then? Maybe one of these three?

1 When the first site is created all the existing workflows should be assigned to it
2 You should not be able to delete the only site
3 When no workflows are available to you, there should be some text to that effect on the left-hand side

It's kind of a procedural issue. For a new site one need many things, output
channels, destinations, workflows, Desks, users, ... So I don't see it as a bug.

I think 2 and 3 are reasonable. Would you create an issue for this?
