while back, but never got a reply. I think this list is quite dead..

It's kind of dead. I think wackamole is a good idea but incompletely
implemented and insufficently reviewed and the original authors seem
fairly uninterested in further development. I think you're better off
looking at things like CARP, pfsense and the Linux Virtual Server
project to accomplish the goals that wackamole appears to be aiming at.

I, for one, was really looking to wackamole to solve my HA requirements
(and it was described in a book about scalable internet architectures as
well).

But for the reasons above, I chose CARP on FreeBSD (to HA my Squid
machines).

I had briefly considered trying to re-implement wackamole in Perl, but
balked at the amount of work I forecast for doing cross-platform
interface manipulation.
