How do I alter web page template
I need to included a summary attributed to all html table tags?
Is there a template that I can modify so that the summary attribute is
set automatically and I don't have to edit the reports after
generating them?

Thanks,

With summary Attribute you mean combined report for a particular client.Let
me get more clearification on it.Yes i do have a perl script to do this

?? Can you expand on that? I have absolutely no idea what html table tags have to do with an Analog report?

Re: How do I alter web page template [ In reply to ]
For example:

Analog will create a table like this:
<table>
<thead><tr><th class="x">month</th><th class="P">pages</th><th
class="bar">&nbsp;</th></tr></thead>
<tbody><tr><td class="x">Sep 2009</td><td class="P">247,751</td><td
class="bar"><img
src="http://www.domain.com/userstat/images/barb32.gif"
alt="++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++" /><img
src="http://www.domain.com/userstat/images/barb8.gif" alt="" /><img
src="http://www.domain.com/userstat/images/barb2.gif" alt=""
/></td></tr>
</tbody></table>

I need to add a summary attribute to the html table tag so it will
look like this:

<table summary="web site statistics">
<thead><tr><th class="x">month</th><th class="P">pages</th><th
class="bar">&nbsp;</th></tr></thead>
<tbody><tr><td class="x">Sep 2009</td><td class="P">247,751</td><td
class="bar"><img
src="http://www.domain.com/userstat/images/barb32.gif"
alt="++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++" /><img
src="http://www.domain.com/userstat/images/barb8.gif" alt="" /><img
src="http://www.domain.com/userstat/images/barb2.gif" alt=""
/></td></tr>
</tbody></table>

Notice the table tag now has a summary attributes.

Re: How do I alter web page template [ In reply to ]
Analog has the ability to create reports in seven possible output
styles. XHTML, HTML, PLAIN, ASCII, XML, LATEX, and COMPUTER.

http://www.analog.cx/docs/output.html

XHTML is the default. I guess that is what I am using.

Analog generates a report in the XHTML style. I need to alter how
Analog generates the HTML table tag in the report.

I'm sorry if this is not coming across very clearly, but I just don't
know how else to explain it.

Your second post explains the problem perfectly. I'm just not sure that there's a way to make the change you want withing Analog, without modifying the source code.

As Mastinder suggests, you might want to check out ReportMagic (http://www.reportmagic.org/) which is a post-processor for Analog reports. I don't have any ReportMagic reports to hand, but the sample reports on that website do include Summary tags in the Tables.

From what everyone else has said, it seems you need to 'post-process'
(i.e. change the report after Analog has written it).

If you know a programming language that can read and write files, the
task here isn't very difficult. If you don't, ignore the rest of this!
<grin>

Judging from my Analog reports, the significant bits in the report seem
to be:

<a name="daysum" id="daysum">Daily Summary</a>
<a name="hoursum" id="hoursum">Hourly Summary</a>
and so on for the other parts of the report.

'a name=' can be recognised and the bit between '>' and '<' describes
the following table, so can be used in your summary attribute.

Crudely the program code needs to:
-----------------------------------
open the original file to read and a new one to write the new version

loop while not end of input file

loop

read a line from the old file and

write it to the new one

until the line includes 'a name=' OR end of file

if not end of file

Store the bit between '>' and '<' (the summary name you want)

read a line from the old file

loop

write line to the new file

read a line from the old file

until the line includes '<table>'

insert your summary attribute within the table tag in this line

write the changed line to the new file

end if

end while loop

close both files

stop
-----------------------------------

If you don't know a suitable language, maybe you know someone who
does... <grin>

All the best,

Roger

Re: How do I alter web page template [ In reply to ]
I figured it I was going to have to 'post-process' the reports. But I
was just hoping that there was some command that I missed in the
documentation.

Thanks everyone for the help.

Sincerely,
